Hello, Thanks for the quick reply. Since her treatment has been just started, there is a need to wait for at least 7 to 10 days to see what benefit present treatment gives. It is good to know that she is determined to cut her dietary intake and also control weight. As you are aware for a diabetes patient it is very essential to maintain near normal body weight, which helps in achieving better blood glucose control. Apart from diet restriction it is absolutely necessary for doing daily physical activity like brisk walking, yoga asanas, pranayam and other exercises. Because you are aware addtional physial activity helps burn extra glucose and helps better insulin action as well as weight reduction. Her ideal body weight should be about 59 kgs, which means she has an excess of over 11 kgs. As regards the dietary intake following general guidelines ned to be adhered to. 1)Reduce the intake of carbs which includes - Rice (Polished rice), wheat, jowar, (Sorghum), potatoes, sweet potatoes and polished millets. 2) The flour used for chapatti and roti should be whole grain one, no sieving (channi nahi lagana), otherwise all the fiber contents are lost. 3) No food products made of maida and no bakery items.4)Avoid deep fried foods as well as trans fats. Avoid processed foods. 5) Increase the intake of green leafy vegetables, salads and fruits ( daily 1 fruit is fine). Fruits to be considered are : papaya, pomegranate, orange, sweet lime, apple, pear, kiwi, guava, watermelon and a small banana There is no reason to worry, as if she takes all the necessary care and maintains her glucose levels as earlier said. If you have any questions please do come back. Thanks.Â
